MillCross Coffee Bar & Kitchen is a community-first café and wine bar in Culver City. We value precision coffee, sincere hospitality, and a warm, collaborative culture. We are hiring a Café Manager who leads from the bar, elevates service, and strengthens our team.
Role Snapshot
Purpose: Ensure the café operates efficiently and safely while meeting high standards in coffee quality, service, and team performance.
Focus: The supervisor will be responsible for ensuring the entire café is operationally prepared, maintaining stock levels, ensuring appliance functionality, and managing staff preparedness both in the front and back of house. A key focus will be on training and coaching staff to meet high standards such as correct coffee, tamping, and service specifications.
Schedule and Compensation
This is a fixed-schedule position designed to supplement the existing Café Manager’s schedule.
Monday
11:00 AM – 6:30 PM (7.5 hours)
Wednesday
12:30 PM – 7:30 PM (7 hours)
Thursday
11:00 AM – 7:00 PM (8 hours)
Friday
11:00 AM – 7:00 PM (8 hours)
Saturday
11:00 AM – 5:00 PM (6 hours)
Total: 36.5 hours per week. Hours are fixed.
Starting pay range: $23 – $25 per hour, depending upon experience. Non‑exempt, hourly.
Key Responsibilities
• Lead daily operations to ensure smooth, efficient service and consistent quality across all beverages and food items.
• Oversee espresso calibration and milk texturing; coach baristas on correct recipes, tamping technique, and service specifications.
• Maintain café readiness: inventory and par levels, restocking, cleanliness, and equipment functionality; coordinate preventative maintenance.
• Model guest-first hospitality; de-escalate issues respectfully; manage comps, remakes, and refunds in line with policy.
• Mentor and develop baristas and shift leads; delegate effectively; support performance feedback and training plans.
• Ensure compliance with timekeeping, breaks, safety, sanitation, and MillCross’ Employee Handbook and Code of Conduct.
• Document incidents and coaching; partner with HR on performance, recognition, and process improvements.
• Supervise closing procedures and accurate hand-off notes to openers and managers.
Qualifications
• 1–2+ years in specialty coffee as a lead/shift lead/manager with strong technical bar skills.
• Proven ability to diagnose fast/slow shots and adjust grind, dose, or yield under pressure.
• Demonstrated skill in coaching, conflict resolution, and calm communication during high volume.
• Familiarity with POS and scheduling systems (Toast, Paylocity, Sling, or 7shifts preferred).
• Reliable, punctual, and organized; comfortable enforcing standards with fairness and respect.
